The Thorvaldsen Network

- is managed by its users, alcohol- and drug-free, and made up of former, actual or potential psychiatric patients.

The Thorvaldsen Network constitutes a free space for its target-group – all users take part in the activities, according to individual wishes and abilities.

We are open from 10 am to 4 pm, but regular users have free access day and night.

Our activities pose an alternative to psychiatry's deactivation and coercion.

In Denmark The Thorvaldsen Network is the only sociopsychiatric offer which is fully managed by its target-group. The implication is that the place works on its own terms, independent of current trends in social and health care fields.

The employees of the administration, coordination and music production have no therapeutical or pedagogical education. The opportunity of meeting the users on a (relative) par is there.

Based on these alternative designs The Thorvaldsen Network is able to spar the sociopsychiatric establishment. Offering a new and better option - like The Thorvaldsen Network - is far more practicable than fighting prevalent psychiatry.

Activities

Our facilities include a recording studio and a practice room - both equipped with musical instruments - a radio station and a workshop for producing organic cosmetics, a computer room, joiner's workshop, kitchen and an office. All computers are connected to the internet.

The educational part provides accomplishments in music production, musical performance, organic cosmetics production, and computer operation.

Some users have formed self-help groups based on individual needs, and we are planning various outdoor activities such as cycling tours, fishing expeditions, and camping trips.
